Service for George Edward Jones, Jr., 86, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, March 29, 2013 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Al Munger will officiate. Burial will be at 1:30 P.M. in Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Pallbearers will be George Jones III, John L. Jones, Karl W. Jones, John Paul Jones, Ramblin Jones, Todd Johnston, B.K. Sharkey, and Shane Gremillion. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Thursday at the funeral home.
George Edward Jones, Jr. passed away Sunday, March 24, 2013 in Cleburne. He was born June 16, 1926 in Lancaster, Penn. to George Edward, Sr. and Rosella Elizabeth Brown Jones. He married Zona Luella Johnston on May 8, 1992 in Maypearl, Tex.
Mr. Jones served his country in the United States Navy during WWII. He was retired from Bell Helicopter after 29 years of service as a quality control inspector, where he was a member of the union. George was one of those men that once you met him, you never forgot him. It has been said that he had a contagious personality. He was known for his huge hugs that often left you squealing. He loved Bluegrass and Country music and in fact met Zona at a Bluegrass festival. He loved to tell stories and had the talent of amazing his audiences. He enjoyed playing Pinochle and Quaits. He was family oriented and will be remembered for the birthday cards he sent that were written in German and contained two dollar bills. His love for life and outgoing spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved him. George was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles Jones; brother, William Paul Jones; and two grandsons, Stephen and Michael Eckel.
Survivors include his wife, Zona Jones; children and their spouses, George Jones, III and Kim, John L. Jones, Jessie J. Eckel, Dodi F. Sharkey and B.K., Jeanie E. Jones, Karl W. Jones and Debby, Barbra Landry and Mike, Tracie Miller and Brandi, and Todd Johnston and Carolyn; 22 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister, Connie Elizabeth Center; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
