George L. Turner passed away on Friday, December 1, 2023 in Cleburne. He was born on July 31, 1951 in Waxahachie, Texas. George married Dana F. Payne on June 8, 1974 in Arlington, Texas. He was a devoted and long-time member of St. Mark United Methodist Church. He was a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Scottish Rite with the Bluff Dale Masonic Lodge. After over 36 years in law enforcement, beginning with the Department of Public Safety in 1973 as a Texas Highway Patrolman and ending with his retirement in 2009 as a Lieutenant in the Texas Rangers (1985-2009). Those serving with him and under his direction will testify that he was a charismatic leader as well as a legend within his ranks. His love of being a Texas Ranger echoed in all he was and did, making him truly a “Ranger’s Ranger”. He was respected by those he came into contact with for a multitude of reasons, all of which were rooted in his character, ethics and belief in right and wrong. George was a family man at his core. His family was the heart of who he was and he treasured every minute he was able to spend with them. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially hiking and searching for artifacts and fossils along the way. George was also a humble man, who loved children and babies above all others. His faith, sense of family and service to others will live on for years and generations to follow. George was preceded in death by his parents, Fred Turner, Sr. & Naomi Pauline Beaty Turner; and one brother, James Thomas Turner.

Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Dana Turner; children, Joshua Thomas Turner & his wife, Mandy, Eden Susana Turner & her fiancé, Blake Howell, and Trace Payne Turner & his wife, Amy; grandchildren, Max Henry Turner and Lily Emma Turner; brother, Fred Turner, Jr. & his wife, Keri; numerous nieces, nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
