Service for Gifford “Dick” Grant Elwood, age 73, of Cleburne will be held at 2 P.M., Tuesday, January 28, 2025, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will be held at 9:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 29, 2025, in DFW National Cemetery. There will be a time of visitation for family and friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Monday, January 27, 2025, at the funeral home.
Gifford passed away on January 21, 2025, in Cleburne, Texas. He was born on July 2, 1951, in Red Oak, Iowa. On October 12, 1973, Gifford married Judy Marylene Daigle in Bruchmühlbach-Miesau, Germany. Gifford was a passionate individual with a zest for life. He participated in high school track while in Germany, was involved in a classic car club, and contributed as a writer for the school newspaper. Gifford was a dedicated service member who honorably served in the United States Army for six years, ultimately retiring with a service-connected disability. During his military career, he was a proud member of the 101st Airborne and served in Vietnam. Gifford’s commitment to his fellow veterans was evident through his active involvement in both the American Legion and the Disabled American Veterans. Additionally, he found joy in hunting and exploring the outdoors, as well as traveling and cherishing time spent with family. Gifford was known for his lighthearted nature and a great sense of humor that brought joy to those around him. He leaves behind a legacy of laughter and compassion that will be fondly remembered.
He is survived by his loving wife, Judy Elwood; daughter, Nikki Hart and her husband, Greg Hart; grandsons, Ean McCrea, Rustin McCrea, and Ryan Hart; granddaughter, Sarah Cook; sister, Jeannie Wilson; brothers, Gerald and Donald Elwood and a host of other relatives and friends.
Gifford was preceded in death by his parents, Billy and Helga Elwood, and his sister, Dorothy Keys. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
