Gladys Cantrell

Gladys Mabelle Cantrell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 2, 2009 at the age of 99 years. Gladys was born in Kopperl, Texas, on November 23, 1909, to Dock Grady Cheek and Bessie Mae (Kelly) Cheek, the first of five children. She married Herman Cantrell on December 24, 1927 in Haskell, Texas.

Gladys was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband with whom she shared a blessed marriage for 62 years, her son, Jimmy Van Cantrell, sisters, Miriam Emma Brumbelow and infant, Julia Mary Cheek; brothers, Morgan Isac Cheek and James W. "Jay" Cheek; an infant grandson, and an infant great-granddaughter. She leaves to cherish her memories, three daughters, Miriam Hall and husband, Albert of Wortham, Texas, Ruth Wilson of Cleburne, Texas and Patricia Demaret and husband, Milton of Bellville, Texas. She will be fondly remembered as "Mee-Maw" to 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.
Gladys dearly loved and greatly missed being able to attend worship services the last few years, with her church family at Granbury St. Church of Christ in Cleburne.

Visitation will be held at the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home on Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 1:00 p.m., with graveside service at Brazos Point Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. in Brazos Point, Texas. Kevin Rhoades and Sid Carruth will officiate. Pallbearers will include her grandsons and great-grandsons.
