Goldie Ruth Tidwell Green was greeted with open arms of our Heavenly Father on Saturday, June 14, 2014 in Brownwood. Ruth, as part of her family and her many friends knew her and Sissy, as some of her family knew her, was born in the family farmhouse in Comanche County on March 19, 1920 to Charles Hendricks and Goldie Atherton Tidwell. Ruth was a typical farm girl who learned to ride horses, attend to farm animals, work in the garden, gather hen eggs, and milk cows.
Ruth graduated from Blanket High School and married her high school sweetheart, Doyle Clarence Green on June 30, 1939. They lived a very active life and settled down in Cleburne. They shared 52 years of joyful marriage and celebrated their 50th anniversary with a spectacular party.
Ruth had many hobbies which included lending a helping hand to people in need, fishing with her husband, camping with her family, gardening, cooking, needlework, and collecting carnival glass. Ruth was a charter member of the Texas Carnival Glass Club, which she helped form in 1969. Ruth and Doyle collected carnival glass for many years, during which they amassed quite a collection and forged many lasting friendships. She was a life member of the club and remained active up to the time of her passing.
Ruth was always ready to lend a helping hand when the Methodist Church needed baked goods or Operation Blessing needed a volunteer. Her generosity was extended to the neighborhood children, who loved the good treats she gave them on holidays. Ruth held many jobs during her working years, the last one being with Rangeaire in Cleburne which lasted 30 years. She retired in 1980.
Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband, Doyle on February 6, 1991; two sisters, Veda and Zera; and five brothers, Pickney, Raymond, Elgin, Charles, and Bobby.
Ruth leaves behind some special people, Bobby Flanagan, spouse of the late niece Earline; and her nephew, Jimmie Ratto and spouse Pat. Jimmie and Pat were at her side daily during the last six months of her life.
Ruth resided at Loree’s Home Place, Keene for a few years where she received great care there by the staff there. When her care became more critical, she was moved to Oak Ridge Manor in Brownwood, where she received excellent care.
The family would like to extend our grateful thanks to the many friends for the many good deeds and loving care they extended to Ruth. We would like to extend our special thanks to the staff at Loree’s Home Place and Oak Ridge Manor for the loving care they extended to Ruth during the last years of her life. Also a special thanks to Solaris Hospice for their ministry to her in the last days of her life.
