Harlan Edward “Buck” Jones passed away Monday, August 1, 2016, in Cleburne, at the age of 91.
Service will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, Aug. 4, 2016 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Joseph Jones, Willie Rodriguez, Jason Jones, Paul Rodriguez, John Jones, Ben Woods, Andy Raifsnider, and Steve Gilder. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
Edward was born Aug. 13, 1924 in Glen Rose to Walter Lee and Ruby Velma Chester Jones. He proudly served his country during WW II in the United States Army as a member of Company H, 2nd Battalion, 103rd Regiment, and 43rd Infantry Division as a heavy machine gunner and 81mm mortarman. He fought in New Guinea, made a beachhead landing on Luzon and fought in battles across the Philippine Islands. Edward earned numerous medals and citations, including the Combat Infantryman Badge and two Bronze Stars. He was a member of the VFW and a 42 year member of American Legion Post No. 50 in Cleburne.
Edward worked as a laborer for the Santa Fe Railroad from March 26, 1951 until his retirement on July 31, 1984. He was also a member of the Santa Fe Fire Department and served for a time as Fire Chief.
He married Betty Jo Ann Logan on June 5, 1948 and they recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Edward was an accomplished musician, able to play various instruments, but usually played fiddle in several local country bands.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Betty Logan Jones of Cleburne; sons, John Jones and wife Billie of Grandview and Ralph Jones and wife Brenda of Whitney, and Bruce Jones of Cleburne; daughter, Elisa Rodriguez and husband William of Cleburne; grandchildren, Shelly Raifsnider and husband Andy, Christi Harding, Angie Lehew and husband Josh, Joseph Jones and wife Stephanie, Jennifer Gilder and husband Steve, Willie Rodriguez and wife Felecia, Jason Jones and wife Courtney, Paul Rodriguez and wife Misty, John Jones and wife Elizabeth, Misti Woods and husband Ben, Lisa Rodriguez, Julie Stewart and husband Scotty, Tami Crim and husband Jake, Tara Pearson, and Tonya Murry and husband Tom; 40 great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; great grandson, Dylan Raifsnider; and sister, Imogene Haverly.
