Graveside service for Helen M. Harper, 95, of Arlington, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2012 in Keene Memorial Park. Pastor Kevin Wells will officiate. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M. Monday.
Mrs. Harper passed away Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012 in Arlington. She was born Aug. 31, 1916 in Elmore City, Okla. to William Thomas and Rhoda Jane Patterson Guthrie. She married James Charlie Harper on Feb. 11, 1940 in Levelland.
Helen Harper was a teacher who taught all over Texas, Okla. and New Mexico and also in the Seventh-day Adventist Church education system. She was not just a teacher, but a devoted educator who went above and beyond the call of duty. She was an old fashioned teacher and took responsibility and authority of her roles in life. She had a love of music and was an accomplished pianist and organist that was both a gift to the church and classroom. She enjoyed gardening, especially growing roses and was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include her daughters, Nellma A. Bowen and husband Ben; Alta Sillivent and husband Gordon and Deana K. Sudler and husband Austin; grandchildren, Randy, Roger, Robin, Shauna, Alisa, Gregory, Chuck, Joe, Beth and Sara; 20 great grandchildren, seven great-great grandchildren; two sisters, Alta Lankford and Ivanell McBryde; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Charlie Harper; two sisters and three brothers.
