Graveside service for Herbert Cecil Hopps, 88, of Temple, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Sunday June 23, 2024, in Keene Memorial Park with Pastor Harley Charles officiating. 

Cecil, as he likes to be called, passed away Tuesday, June 18, 2024, in Temple, Texas. He was born June 12, 1936, in Fort Worth, Texas to Herbert Milton and Ivanette Virginia (Woodall) Hopps. Cecil married Mary Ellen Eaves on December 22, 1955, in Washington, D.C. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. He proudly served his country in the United States Army as a registered nurse. After the army he went to work as the Director of Nursing at Hialeah Hospital in Hialeah, Florida. He then advanced to the position of Personnel Director while continuing to study for his Masters in Hospital Administration. He later became the Associate Administrator at Hialeah Hospital. In the early 80’s Cecil and Mary Ellen moved to Temple, TX to work at Scott & White Hospital, he a Hospital Administrator, she a Nurse Anesthetist. After a few years, he retired and bought a TCBY franchise in Temple, which he later turned into 5 locations across Central Texas. His warm presence, genuine kindness, and snappy one-liners will be dearly missed by all those who had the privilege of knowing him.

Survivors include his loving wife of 68 years, Mary Ellen Hopps; son, Gary Hopps and his wife, Alexandria; brother, James Kenneth Hopps and his wife, Barbara; along with numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. 

He was preceded in death by his parents. The memory of Herbert will live on in the hearts of those who knew him well.
