Hubert Earl Nickell passed away Monday, February 22, 2016 at his home in Cleburne, Texas surrounded by his entire family.
Graveside services will be Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 2:00 PM in Cleburne Memorial Cemetery. The Reverend John Glover will officiate.
Hubert was born in Cleburne, Texas on February 9, 1931 to James Earl and Sarah Elizabeth Rollins Nickell. His parents divorced when he was a toddler.
He grew up in extreme poverty in Joshua, Texas during the Great Depression. He began work as a child to feed he and his mother. He left Joshua High School in his 3rd year to enlist in the U.S. Air Force in order to support his mother. Afterward, he worked various places in Cleburne and slept at night at Dillon & Sons Funeral Home and later worked and lived at Crosier-Pearson funeral home.
He met "Sue" Emma Nell Easdon, also of Cleburne, in February 1951 and they were married on April 20th that year at Field Street Baptist Church in Cleburne. In doing so, he gained the love and support of the family he had never had. They were Floyd and Della Mae Easdon and their son, his new brother, Harold.
He continued working at Crosier-Pearson until 1954 when he was drafted into U.S. Army during the Cold War with Russia. He was stationed in Germany. After his honorable discharge from service, he worked in Fort Worth for Ken Davis Industries and later Waples Platter /White Swan. He began attending Southwestern Adventist College in Keene Texas at night and later at Texas Wesleyan University in Fort Worth. While working full time and going to college at night , it took 10 years but he graduated from Texas Wesleyan with a degree in Management.
He retired from the executive staff of U.S.Food Service in the metro-plex. After a long life of hard work, he fully enjoyed playing golf five days a week with many great guys especially, his dear friend Bill Lyle.
The Lord blessed Hubert and Sue with two great sons, Wade in 1964 and Clint in 1966. Hubert then had a loving family, a home, a college degree, no debts and money in the bank.

He thanked God everyday for his love and watchcare.
He is survived by his wife, Sue, of 65 years, sons, Wade and Clint, daughter in law, Janice, grandson, Reece, granddaughter, Haley and husband Brandon Bruce, great grandson, Rendon and great granddaughter on the way all living within 15 miles of each other; neice Johanna Easdon Hicks of Sulpher Springs, nephews, Grady Easdon of Cleburne and Alan Easdon of Trussville, Alabama.
Hubert was a member of Field Street Baptist Church where he and his family all attended for 65 plus years.
