Iva Savage
Iva Belle Johson was born February 3, 1922 in De Ridder, Lousiana to Stella Bailey Johnson and Lloyd Johnson.
Iva Belle's mom died when she was four and she and her 2 brother went to live with their grandmother, Mattie Johnson. Iva Belle told me that Mattie had her hands full and a lot of wonderful people helped in the rearing of the kids. Mattie's brother, Uncle Frank helped in numerous ways.
After Mattie died the boys went to live in the dorm at Southwestern Junior College and Iva Belle went to live with the Dortch family in the village. She enjoyed her years at Keene.
Iva Belle loved to sing and had a wonderful voice. In 1939 she was singing in church when a young man who was attending church heard her and said, "I'm going to marry her"....they were married on October 7, 1939. Fletcher LeNeff Savage (Neff) and Iva Belle celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary a few months before his death in April 2006. During that time they were blessed with four children, Robert, Myrtle, Kay and Lisa.
Through the years they lived in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Nebraska, Colorado but Texas was always in their hearts as home.
Iva Belle worked at Great Southern Life Insurance in Houston for over 25 years. She made many friends there. After she retired they moved to Texarkana where they enjoyed living out on their acreage and maintaining and sharing a large garden. Those years they were close to long time friends and enjoyed the church there.
Iva Belle enjoyed reading, knitting, yard work and there was always music in her heart and home. She loved her Saviour and her family. Wherever Iva Belle went she made friends and enjoyed sharing her many talents with them.
Iva Belle was preceded in death by her loving husband Fletcher LeNeff, and their son, Robert Lloyd. She is survived by daughters, Myrtle, Kay and Lisa, daughter in law Lynda Savage, along with numerous grandchildren, step grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She will be missed by family and friends. She said she looked forward to seeing us again in Heaven.
