Ivy Loree Lewis, former editor and co-publisher of THE ALVARADO POST, joined her husband and sweetheart in heaven on Wednesday, December 13, 2017, after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease. She had remained very active and social during the long months and years, fighting to stay strong enough to enjoy life and her wonderful family.
Loree was born May 11, 1935 in Alice, Texas, the fifth of six children born to Clyde Freeman and Imogene Marie Wallis. She grew up in Johnson County, attending Godley, Joshua and Alvarado public schools. She married Willie Eugene Lewis on October 27, 1951. They enjoyed 56 years of marriage before his death on October 5, 2007.
Having been a custom seamstress through the early part of her life, Loree became involved in the newspaper business when her children graduated and left home. After working for THE ALVARADO BULLETIN for some years, she and her good friend Paula Daniel founded THE ALVARADO POST, which replaced THE BULLETIN after it was sold. The next six years were busy ones for her but rewarding. When her family needed her most, she retired and helped care for her loved ones. She and Willie moved to a lovely home on Lake Whitney where she made many friends.
Loree was preceded in death by her husband Willie; her parents Clyde and Marie Wallis; one brother Carol Edgar Wallis; one sister Marian Spigener and one granddaughter Laura Lyn Lewis.
She is survived by her daughter Becky Marbut and husband Mike of Alvarado; two sons Ricky Lewis and wife Susie of Iredell and Roger Lewis and wife Diann of Granbury; one brother Loyd Wallis and wife Velma of Comanche; two sisters Juanice Wichterich and husband Heinz of Burleson and Ann Gartman of Stillwater, Oklahoma; 10 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
