Service for Jackie D. “Cowboy Jack” Root, 75, of Grandview will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Friday, Dec. 29, 2017 in the Friendship Baptist Church. Pastor Brian McClure will officiate. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Thursday, at the funeral home.
Jackie D. “Cowboy Jack” passed away, surrounded by his family, on Friday, Dec. 22, 2017. He was born April 17, 1942 in Bedford, IN to Stanley and Iva Irene Allen Root. He married Janice Martin on March 18, 1981 at Carswell Air Force Base in Ft. Worth.
Mr. Root served in the United States Air Force as a Master Sergeant before retiring. He worked at Cowtown Driving School teaching driver’s education. He was also an owner of a bait shop on Lake Benbrook “The Minnow Bucket”. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Janice M. Root; two daughters, Tammy Griffith and husband Randy of Grandview and Kelly Irene Root of Dallas; grandchildren, J.R. Griffith, Justin Griffith, Jack Brandon Griffith, Jessica Griffith, Joshua Edmond Bell and fiancée Crystal Stockbridge, Candice Irene Leslie and husband James, and Jacqueline Breanna Villigran; six grandchildren in AL; two great grandchildren, Ryker and Reid Griffith; brother, Rick Root of Bedford IN; and sister, Sandy Osborne of Woodland, WA. He was preceded in death by his parents.
