Service for James “Brownie” Edward Clay, 87 of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11: 00 A.M., Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at St. Paul CME in Cleburne. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 10:00 A.M., Wednesday at the church prior to the service.
James was born May 6, 1933 in Cleburne to Ira and May (Webster) Clay. James married Arabella Faye Holloway on November 26, 1961 in Morgan, Texas. He served 8 years in the U.S. Army and 10 years in the reserves as a military policeman. James worked for Cleburne ISD for 5 years, City of Cleburne for 10 and Santa Fe railroad for 24 years. He was an avid fisherman, hunter and loved the great outdoors. He had many friends throughout his life. He always gave a helping hand to anyone and never asked for anything in return. James was a wonderful father. He loved reading to enhance his mind and had a great memory. He was a Mason, member of American Legion #12152, strong member of the trustee board at St. Paul CME Church in Cleburne and served as church treasurer. He loved his family.
James is survived by his wife of 59 years, Faye Clay; son Michael Clay and wife Phala; daughters Melba Clay and Sharell Clay; grandchildren, Causha Jones, Tyrone Nunn, Cynthia Clay-Hawkins; great grandchildren, Tyrin Jones, Kavyon Nunn, Paisley Nunn, Tremayne Fuller, Aubryelle Clay-Hawkins; great-great grandson Paxton Fuller; sister, Elizabeth Ann Jahi and husband Sani and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and colleagues.
James is preceded in death by his daughter, Patricia Williams, parents; brothers, Ira Clay, Robert “R.L.” Clay, Wilford Clay John Henry Clay and sister Ruby Johnson.
