James Graves

Graveside service for Lt. Col. James Melvin Graves, Ret., 85 of Chama, NM, will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Sunday, Jan. 17, 2010 in the Caddo Cemetery. Mr. Jerry Nelson will officiate. Visitation will be from 1:00 - 2:30 P.M., Sunday at the funeral home.
Lt. Col. Graves passed away Wednesday, Jan. 13, 2010 in Albuquerque, NM. He was born Jan. 14, 1924 in Joshua to William W. and Mary T. Wood Graves. He married Gaye Lynn Hays on May 10, 1979 in Las Vegas, Nev. He graduated from Godley High School in 1942; attended TCU from 1946 - 1948 and graduated from Sacramento State in 1965 with a BA. He received the rank of Lt. Col. in the U.S. Air Force serving his country for almost 30 years. Lt. Col. Graves was a member of the AFA, the VFW and the American Legion.
Lt. Col. Graves is survived by his wife, Lynn Hays Graves of Chama, NM; son, Capt. William Shaw (Bill) Graves, USNR of Dallas; daughter, Sarah Elizabeth Barnett and husband Dale of Penn.; four grandchildren, Cassandra, Catherine, Dylan and Amanda and sister in law, Fina Graves of Cleburne. He was preceded in death by his brother, Richard (Dick) Graves and his sister, Wilene Alexander.
