Service for James “Rooster” Houston, Jr. 87, of Alvarado, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, January 21, 2022, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Bishop Benjamin J. Williams will officiate. Burial to follow in Glenwood Cemetery in Alvarado. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M., Thursday, January 20, 2022, at the funeral home.
James passed away Monday, January 17, 2022, in Alvarado. He was born September 9, 1934, in Muldoon, Texas to James Houston, Sr., and Evy (Sanders) Houston. He worked as a Fabricator for Texas Steel in Fort Worth. Rooster was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and fisherman. He was well known and had many friends. He had a giving heart and gave with all he had. James had a strong faith and was a member of St. Paul Baptist Church. His family was the center of his world. His laughter and love for life will be missed greatly.
James is survived by his children, Michael Nelson, Renard Houston, and Kenya Thomas and husband, Kevin; grandchildren, Natasha Nelson, Mercedes Conners, My’Kia Nelson, and Kalaysia Thomas; great-grandchildren, Nadia Turner, and Ricki Jones; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends, including his special friend, Valerie Walker, who he loved greatly.
He is preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, My’Keunte Bush; siblings, Horace Houston, Thomas Houston, Mollie Daniels, Jewel Jarmon, and Ricky Houston.
