Graveside services for James Edgar Hudgins, 79, of Rio Vista, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, July 22, 2020 in the Rio Vista Cemetery. Reverend Neale B. Oliver will officiate. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Tuesday, at the funeral home.
James E. Hudgins passed away July 18, 2020 in Rio Vista. He was born December 2, 1940 in Cleburne to William Edgar (W.E.) and Lenora (Hobbs) Hudgins. He married Shelba Jean Lyne on August 22, 1959 in the First Baptist Church of Rio Vista. He graduated from Rio Vista High School as Valedictorian. In 1963 he received his bachelor’s degree at North Texas State, where he studied math and chemistry. He was a Health Inspector for the Dallas County Health Department for 32 years. James served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher at Indian Hills Baptist Church, Grand Prairie, Texas until his retirement. After retiring he returned to First Baptist Church of Rio Vista where he served as a Sunday School teacher. He was known as a prayer warrior.
He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing. Being “PaPa” to his grandchildren was one of his greatest loves.
Survivors include his wife, Shelba Lyne Hudgins; daughter, Sherri Crayton and husband Johnnie; grandchildren, Christopher Crayton and Courtnie Crayton; siblings, Billy Hudgins, Anita Blackwell, and Jobie Hudgins; sister-in-law, Minnie Hudgins; brother-in-law, Fred Chambers; nieces; nephews; and a host of other relatives who will miss him.
Preceding him were his parents; son, James Mark Hudgins; and siblings, Bobby Hudgins and Alice Chambers.
