Services for James C. "J.C." King, 89, of Bono, will be conducted at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, July 16, 2011 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Brother Glenn Scarbourgh will officiate. Burial will be in the Bono Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
Mr. King passed away Friday, July 8, 2011 in Corpus Christi. He was born April 5, 1922 in Wolfe City to Roy and Anna Cherry King. He married Mary Ruth Hewitt on Nov. 25, 1946 in Dallas and she preceded him in death on Dec. 11, 2003. He married Julie Lester Verwers on April 30, 2005 in Corpus Christi. Mr. King was a member of the Bono Baptist Church and was a retired aircraft mechanic for Braniff Airways. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp. and a member of the Masonic Lodge #315 of Cleburne and the Al Amin Shrine. He also volunteered at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi. Mr. King was a firefighter for the Bono fire department.
Survivors include his wife, Julie King of Bono; son, Paul Roy King and wife Jerri Ann of Bono; daughter, Ann King Currens of Houston; grandchildren, Daniel Currens, Whitney Ogle and husband Ben, Christie Currens, Megan Laxson, Hannah King and James Laxson; great grandchild, Logan Ogle; sister, Freda Pullen of DeSoto; step sons, Rob Verwers and wife Loretta of Blanco and Eric Verwers and wife Mary of Burleson; step daughter, Vicki Adair and husband Preston of Corpus Christi; six step grandchildren, Bobbie Ann White, Robert Verwers, Michelle Verwers, Kevin , Mark and Tess Flores; one step great granddaughter, JuliAnn White.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Fred King and granddaughter, Lindsey King.
