A memorial service for James “Jim” Matthews, 73, of Johnson County, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, November 8, 2014 at Hillside Baptist Church in Alvarado. Pastor Carr Parrish will officiate.

James “Jim” Matthews passed away Tuesday, October 28, 2014 in Johnson County. He was born October 19, 1941 in Hale County, Texas to Robert Leach and Mary Corene Kennedy Matthews. He married Mary Elizabeth McFadden on July 10, 1992 in Billings, Montana and she preceded him in death on January 27, 2012.

Mr. Matthews served in the United States Air Force. He was a farmer, painter, and wrote poetry and short stories. He was of the Baptist Faith. Jim will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Survivors include his children, Jamie Willoughby and husband Chuck, James Matthews and wife Tara, and Cora Moon and husband J.R.; six grandchildren; one great grandchild; sister, Ann Nettles; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.
