James Michael Marbut

James Michael Marbut left this world quietly in his sleep in the early hours of Sunday, November 24, 2024, nestled in the comfort of his favorite recliner, after an 8 year battle with cancer. He was born on September 12, 1947, the youngest of six, to Jack and Minnie Beatrice Hasty Marbut. Known as Michael to family members, he became “Mike” to schoolmates and friends, graduating with the class of 1966 from C.F. Brewer High School in White Settlement.

After attending Weatherford Jr. College and UT Arlington, he met the love of his life Becky June Lewis, on a blind date and married her two years later on July 16, 1971, at the First Baptist Church of Alvarado, entering into a marriage that lasted 53 years. Two months later he answered a call for a job interview that landed him with a career of 42 years with Resdoor Company, Inc.

Mike enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, camping, and watching first his children, and then his grandchildren, participate in various sports. He retired from Resdoor at the end of 2013 with plans to fish and spend more time with his wife. Many times it was commented that they just did everything together!

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin, Lindell and Ronald Marbut, and sister Nelda Williams.

He is survived by one sister, Anna Beth Covey of Tyler, his wife, Becky, son Jared Marbut and wife Susan of Alvarado, daughter Leah Maines and husband Bo of Azle, six grandchildren, Kerri Marbut of Washington DC, Sydney Marbut of College Station, Ivy and Jase Marbut of Alvarado, and Dylan and Gatlin Maines of Azle, as well as a host of loving nieces and nephews.

Mike requested he be cremated. With the holiday season approaching, the family has chosen to wait till spring to hold an outdoor memorial service and fish fry at an area lake.
