Service for James W. Brooks, 72, of Cleburne will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Thursday, March 2, 2017 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend Charles E. Payne will officiate, assisted by the Reverend Brooks Monk. Burial will be in Hopewell Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charles Davis, Rick Cumins, Thomas Brady and Zach Brady. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
James W. Brooks passed away Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017 in Ft. Worth. He was born Dec. 18, 1944 in Cleburne to Virgil Lee, Sr. and Exa Modean Blackman Brooks. He married Linda Carol Reed on April 8, 1971 in Cleburne.
Mr. Brooks was a veteran of the United States Navy and worked as a furnace chief at Johns Manville, retiring with 35 years of service. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include his beloved wife, Linda Brooks of Cleburne; sons, James L. Brooks of Rio Vista and Phillip Brooks and wife Amanda of Burleson; two grandchildren, Samantha Brooks and Jessica Brooks; three siblings, Christine Hughes of Cleburne, Marion E. “Gene” Brooks of Hitchcock and Era Davis and husband Charles of Keene. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Virgil Brooks, Jr. and Thomas Cortez Brooks and sister, Belva Leona Sanderson.
