Jane McGinnis Russell died August 30, 2020, following a short illness. Final Inurnment will be Friday, September 25, 2020 at 3:30 PM in the Cleburne Memorial Cemetery in Cleburne, TX. She was the daughter of Andrew Cleveland and Jeffie Clayton McGinnis and born in Denton, Texas. Her great grandparents were early settlers in Denton, before Texas became a state.
She attended school at the University of North Texas from nursery school through college and was granted a Bachelor of Science degree in 1950. She also received a Master of Education degree from Northeast Louisiana University in 1970.
Jane taught school in Dallas and worked in three decennial censuses. She was a member of Monroe Symphony League and worked in the Symphony League bookroom for over 34 years. She was a member of the North Texas university Chilton Society. Jane loved travelling, reading, duplicate bridge (Life Master), and animals, especially, cats.
Mrs. Russell is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William Kirtley Russell; parents, Andrew Cleveland and Jeffie Clayton McGinnis; brother, Andrew Clayton McGinnis and wife, Alice; stepdaughter, Luann; and her last cat, Lucky, a dearly loved companion.
She is survived by Alice's children, and their families, and some special friends; Kit Kelly, Margaret Huey, Kenneth Kirkland, Adrienne Ray, and Chris Kitchens and family.
At her request, there will be no memorial or funeral service. Her cremains will be sent to the Russell family plot in Cleburne Cemetery in Cleburne, TX. Memorials may be made to the River Cities Humane Society for Cats or the Monroe Symphony League.
