Janice Hadley

Janice (Jan) Marilyn Hadley (nee Ramsay) was born on the 8th of September, 1934, in Butler, Oklahoma, to Frank and Hazel Ramsey. She passed away on the 9th of December, 2023, in Redmond, Oregon, surrounded by her loving family.

Jan married Vernon Roper in 1950, in Oklahoma. Their marriage produced five children, including a stillborn baby girl. The remaining children are named Russell, Michael, Gayla, and Vernetta. The family enjoyed extensive travels around the United States before settling in Alaska. In 1973, Jan married Clarence (Doil) Hadley in Anchorage, Alaska. The happy couple soon moved back to Doil’s family home in Alvarado, Texas, where they built their dream home on a working farm.

The family home became central to numerous joyous events, such as the Hadley reunion for many years. Indeed, this little farm in Alvarado became a Hadley base for connecting family all over the country. Marcille and the Hadley daughters were frequent visitors with their children to play croquet, dominoes, or just sit on the porch swing with ‘papa and grandma.’

Jan was not only a devoted wife and mother but was also actively engaged in Church of Christ outreach programs, most notably, “The Bridge” food bank in Cleburne, Texas. She never missed a church service or event, energetically participating in service for the Lord. After many happy years together, Doil and Jan expanded their family by adopting three grandchildren, Jerry, Blanca, and Brittany, ensuring their loving home was never empty.

Jan shared a particularly close relationship with her great-grandchildren, Rylan and Adrienne. Grandma never missed a soccer game and was always ready for sleepovers with waffles the next morning. In 2015, Jan moved to Oregon to be cared for by her eldest daughter, Vernetta. She enjoyed a carefree life, joining a local Church of Christ, and spending her days antique shopping. Jan will be missed, every day.

Janice Hadley is survived by her daughters, Vernetta Tyree and Gayla Williams of Redmond, Oregon. She is also survived by her stepdaughters; Marcille Bishop of Georgia, Rayma Hadley of Alaska, Judith Hadley of Alaska, Susan Murray of Oklahoma, and Carla Hadley of Alaska. Additionally, Jan is survived by adopted daughter Brittany of Yorkshire, England, adopted daughter Blanca of Cleburne, Texas, and adopted son Jerry of Cleburne, Texas. Jan is further survived by 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Delano and his wife Judy of Oklahoma and her sisters, Darlene and her husband Ernie (Butch) of Ohio and Virgina Starks of South Carolina.

Preceding Janice in death are her parents, Frank and Hazel Ramsey; husband, Clarence Doil Hadley; two sons, Russel and Michael Roper; grandsons, Joshua Tyree and Brian Roper; brother, Buford Ramsey; and sisters Twila Roper, Judy Goldsberry, and Zettie Kauk.
