Janie Katherine Huey Wiley, 98, passed away after a brief illness early Thursday morning, April 10, at Cleburne Rehabilitaiton and Health Care Center. She was born November 8, 1909, in Dyer County, TN, to John and Nora Virden Huey. She was a resident of Wilmore, KY, for 55 years. Janie devoted her life to her Lord Jesus Christ, her family and education. Following her 1931 graduation from George Peabody Teachers College (now Vanderbilt) she taught high school Latin and English. She also assisted her husband who served as preacher/pastor, Asbury College professor and farmer. After retiring she returned to the classroom and substitute taught into her 91st year. A highlight of her teachiing career was celebrating her 82nd birthday in Indonesia at Wesleyan International School where she taught 40 children in grades 1-7 whose parents were business people, ambassadors and missionaries. Before moving to Cleburne three years ago, she lived near her younger son and family in Centralia, WA.
She is survived by her son Robert Wiley, Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Mansfield, OH; daughter Janie Wiley Jones and husband Steve Jones of Cleburne, TX; son Joseph Wiley and wife Sharolyn of Centralia, WA; 11 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Janie Wiley was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Robert F. Wiley, Sr. in 1987; one daughter, Katherine Anne Cunigan in 1963, and a brother Lytle Logan of Memphis, TN.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, at 3:00 pm with a memorial service at 4:00 pm, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home, 512 North Ridgeway, Cleburne, TX.
Memorials, in lieu of flowers, may be made to Asbury College, 1 Macklem Drive, Wilmore, KY, 40390, for the Robert F. Wiley, Sr. & Janie Katherine Wiley Memorial Endowed Scholarship Fund.
