Memorial service for Jay D. Peacock, 67, of Cleburne, will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 7, 2022, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Cliff Spain officiating. There will be a time of visitation from 1:00-2:00 P.M., prior to the memorial service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, that memorial gifts be made to either the Fort Worth Retired Fire Fighter Association at 2245 FM 2048 Boyd, Texas 76023 or to the Fort Worth Fire Fighter Museum Fund at PO Box 10481 Fort Worth, Texas 76114.
Jay D. Peacock passed away at his home in Cleburne, Texas on Tuesday, March 29, 2022. He was born to Jerald D. and Edith Louise Gay Peacock on March 9, 1955, in Fort Worth, Texas. He married Konnie Lee Elder on November 15, 1985, in Fort Worth. Jay was of Christian faith. He retired in 2011, as Deputy Chief with the Fort Worth Fire Department. During Jay’s 34 years of service to the department, he was past president of the Local 440, Fort Worth Fire Fighters Union, in which he was proud to be in a position to serve his fellow fire fighters and did so with passion and dignity. He was a founding member of the Texas Task Force – Urban Search & Rescue, where he served as the White Team Leader. In this role of service, he and his team were at many emergency scenes and natural disasters such as 911, Houston Flood, Oklahoma City Bombing, the Discovery Explosion, and Hurricane Katrina to name a few. Traveling and providing support during these difficult times were very special to Jay. He was “bigger than life” in so many ways to countless people he encountered in his lifetime. It has been said that Jay was a caring man, who had a tender heart and was quick witted. He was a family man in every sense of the phrase and was protective of his loved ones. Jay enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He was a life-long music man, having played guitar and written songs along the way. Jay’s strong will and independent streak will be missed greatly. He is preceded in death by his father, Jerald D. Peacock; brother-in-law, Dusty Wells; and nephew, Todd Sims.
Survivors include his wife, Konnie Elder Peacock; son, Jeromy D. Peacock and his wife, Maggie; daughter, Cheyenne Lee Spivey and her husband, John; grandchildren, Joy, Grace, Jay D. and Glory Peacock, and Birdie and Nolan Spivey; mother, Edith Louise Peacock; siblings and their spouses, Randal “Randy” and Leona Peacock, Gary and Coelene Peacock, and Cynthia “Cissy” Wells; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
