Service for Jean Pickett, 68, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, July 20, 2022, at Greater Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 317 North Brazos Ave, Cleburne. Visitation will be conducted Tuesday, July 19, 2022, from 6:00 – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment will be on Saturday, July 23, 2022, in St. John Cemetery, Maple Hill, North Carolina.
Jean Pickett passed away Monday, July 11, 2022, in Cleburne. She was born on December 05,1953, in Burgaw, North Carolina to William Telf and Floretta Frances (Wooten) Fagan. After high school, she attended Elizabeth City University, where she pledged in the distinguished Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. After graduating, she served in the U.S. Army. Jean worked for Texas Workforce and retired in 2005; she also worked and retired from Texas Veterans Association. She married Jimmy Lee Pickett on January 10, 1975, in Burgaw, North Carolina.
Jean was a beautiful, giving person who loved serving her church and community. She was affectionately called “Miss Cleburne” as she wore many hats during her lifetime. She was acting Executive Director for the East Cleburne Community Center with over 30 years of faithful service to it. Jean was well-known for her cooking and catering. She was always busy, leading and teaching. She served in many ways at her church, Greater Mt. Zion, including the choir, secretary, teaching Sunday School, Wednesday Bible Study and Mission on Thursday.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband of 47 years, Jimmy Lee Pickett; children, Jalyssa Pickett and Jabrielle (David) Ortiz; grandson, Jamari Davis, siblings, Lucinda Fagan, Deloris (Gene) Moore and William Fagan, Jr.; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Floretta Fagan; sisters, Etta James and Doris Brantley.
