Memorial services will be held for Jerry Freeman, 75, of Whitney, at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Watts Chapel United Methodist Church of Grandview.
Mr. Freeman was born September 7, 1934 in Sweetwater, Texas to Jordan Rucker and Laura Alice Stiffler Freeman. He passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010 in Fort Worth. Jerry married Bessie Lou Holder on October 16, 1955 in Grand Field, Oklahoma. He retired as a Sr. Master Sgt. with the United States Air Force after 27 years in 1979. Jerry was a member of Watts Chapel UMC for over 20 years, where he was active in the upkeep of the church and cemetery as well as the quilting group. Jerry was a member of the American Legion (Whitney), V.F.W. (San Antonio) and 6924 Heritage Organization. Jerry was a knowledgeable man who enjoyed sharing as often as he could with others. His expertise was in history and the Old Testament specifically. Jerry received an associate's degree in history with Hill College. Jerry was an avid genealogist and enjoyed family reunions as well as reunions with his Vietnam veterans. He also enjoyed cooking, fishing, and trips to the casino. Jerry's quirky sense of humor and unforgettable spirit will be missed greatly by all those that knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; 3 sisters; and a brother.
Survivors include his children and their spouses, Allen Keith and Laurie Freeman, Kellye and Bill Miller, Kerry and Kelly Freeman, Kenny and Renee Freeman, and Kasey and Randy Gilday; 15 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; special friend, Paula Norcross; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
