A graveside service for Jesse W. Mears, age 85, of Alvarado, Texas, will be held at 12:00 P.M. on Saturday, September 21, 2024, in Squaw Creek Cemetery, Glenrose, with Minister Barry Gee officiating. Visitation will take place from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Friday, September 20, 2024, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home.
Jesse passed away on Saturday, September 14, 2024. He was born on January 19, 1939, in Morgan, Texas, to Jessie L. and Lula (Thompson) Mears, and he was a devoted member of the Christian faith. Jesse had a distinguished career as a truck driver in logistics, a profession that he approached with dedication and passion. His love for music was well-known; he was honored as a 2004 inductee into the Country Music Association of Texas Hall of Fame and received the 2018 Master of Texas Fiddling award, highlighting his significant contributions to the music community. In addition to his professional achievements, Jesse cherished moments spent fishing and entertaining guests. Jesse will be remembered for his vibrant spirit, loving heart, and the indelible mark he left on those who knew him.
He leaves behind a loving family, including his children, Jesse Mears Jr., Tony Mears and wife Amy, and Mark Mears. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Austin Mears and wife Tayler, Brittany Mears, and Ty Mears, as well as great-grandchildren Gregory Mears and Eleanor Biederstedt, and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie L. and Lula Mears, and his siblings: Arthur Mears, Delta Schad, Levada Moore, Walter Mears, Visie Scarberry, and Kathryn Roberts.
