Jim Lane is laying brick in heaven now. He's getting ready for his next deer hunting trip. And planning next spring's garden. He was very good at all these things. Daddy's hands, "magic fingers" could do anything. He was also a very humble man.
His ability as a brick layer, stone mason, "straw boss", shows in the buildings he helped to build. From East Texas to the Panhandle to the Hill Country and North Central Texas. DFW, John Peter Smith Hospital, the Denton courthouse, a bank in North Richland Hills and many more.
Maybe first should be the house he built west of Alvarado 60 years ago for his wife and 4 daughters. He doubled the size of the house in the mid 50's before his son was born. And Perkadeeze Palace, built from "perks" from his jobs, and the shop, built from bricks and stone from the house that his father built in Athens in 1927.
"Never throw anything away, you might need it"
He made many life long friends during his 32 years with Fenimore and Blythe Construction. Many of these were his hunting buddies too. Every year, about October, they would head for Colorado, sometimes Wyoming. Relatives were included in some of these trips. The stories they would tell, the camaraderie, the friendships and trust, last for a lifetime.
J. T. always had a garden. Vegetables of all kinds.Canned some, sold some, gave most of it away. Corn taller than your head and the best onions. He knew which flowers to plant among the vegetables. Zinnias, marigolds. But he loved iris' the most. Every color of the rainbow in little groups all over his yard. He had a garden at the homeplace in Athens too. Iris', peace lilies, along with the peach orchard. People have said he kept the place looking like a park.
J.T. , Jim, Daddy, Grandpa, Great-grandpa, Great-Paw-paw, and Great -great Grandpa, Uncle and friend. He was very proud to be called all of these.

Not everyone can have 4 generations, let alone 5, but J. T. Lane did. 40 great-grandchildren and 32 great-great grandchildren . He loved and cherished everyone of them.
Numerous nephews, nieces and friends have lots of memories of family reunions, hunting trips and lots of good times.
He would want us to remember that we are "strong stock" and we can get thru this time.
