Joe Gleen Davis passed away May 15, 2021 in Waxahachie. He was born September 24, 1953 to Mary and J.L. Calahan. He graduated from Cleburne High School in 1972. He was a Carmen and Locomotive Engineer for Santa Fe Railroad. Later when Santa Fe merged, he started Davis Painting Contracting and continued it until his death.
Joe met the love of his life at dances sponsored by Ramblin Rhythm Band at the Old Cleburne Armory. They were married on July 31, 1976 at First Methodist Church of Godley. Joe was a member of First Methodist of Cleburne.
Joe was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He loved guns, hunting, fishing and rodeo. Joe was the ultimate cowboy. He loved watching westerns (new and old) and John Wayne.
Joe had more one liners than anybody could count and most can’t be repeated out loud.
Joe never missed Natalie and Ryan’s ballgames. He fussed every year about the money spent on family vacations but honestly, they were the best vacations ever. He really cherished every moment he could spend with his family.
Joe was known by several nicknames through the years. Schoolmates of Natalie and Ryan’s dubbed him “Big Joe” Davis. His coffee drinking friends called him “Honest Joe Davis”, saying his motto was “I’ll be there on Thursday”.
Lately, Joe had taken up the “hobby” of selling and raising cattle. He absolutely loved being outdoors feeding cows or hauling hay.
Joe never lost his cowboy spirit. He always tried to keep his crews working and his family happy.
Joe will be greatly missed by his wife Lisa Ganong Davis of Grandview, Natalie and Wade Woodfin of Prattville, Alabama, Ryan Davis and friend Arminda Lopez of Cleburne, sister Becky Jackson of Columbia, Tennessee, brother Ricky Davis of Osceola and half sister, Shelly Smajstla, mother-in-law, Joyce Ganong, sister-in-law, Kayla Edwards and brother-in-law, Tony Ganong.
In lieu of flowers you may send a donation to First United Methodist of Cleburne.
And beyond forever I’ll wait for you.
