Graveside service for Joe Lee Townes, 97, of Cleburne will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Monday, Oct. 1, 2012 in the Greenacres Mausoleum Chapel. The Reverend Nathan Lowen officiating. Burial will be in the Greenacres Memorial Park.
Mr. Townes passed away Saturday, Sept. 29, 2012 in Cleburne. He was born Jan. 14, 1915 in Amarillo to Albert Crockett and Clara Josephine Landis Townes. He married Frankie Bryant and she preceded him in death in 1988. Mr. Townes was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Army and earning the rank of Tech. Sgt. Mr. Townes was elected as county clerk and served Johnson County for 14 years from 1971-1984. He formerly worked in six different areas for the County of Johnson for 31 years. Mr. Townes also enjoyed
working with the Little League Baseball programs. Mr. Townes was a member of the First Christian Church where he served as an Elder. He was a lifetime member of the PTA and a member of the Cleburne American Legion Post #50 and a past commander. Mr. Townes recieved the Johnson County Juvenile Probation Officer Service Award for six years of service in 1970, and the Community Service Award from the Johnson County Bar Association in 1980.
Survivors include his daughter, Owanna McGee and husband Tommy of Cleburne; sister, Mrs. Margaret Radney of Amarillo; grandchildren, Ms. Robyn McGee, Sabrina Satterfield and husbnad Mike, Gayland McGee and Kyle McGee; great grandchildren, Crystalie Camp, Kaylee Hickey and Blake Satterfield and many nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
