A visitation and gathering for Joel Marlin Bell, 71, of Alvarado, will be held at Crosier Pearson Cleburne Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, November 23, 2011. Chaplain Bill Sparks will officiate. No other funeral services are planned. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mission Hospice, 505 N Ridgeway Dr # 173, Cleburne, TX 76033-5191 or to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
Mr. Bell was born July 9, 1940 in Multrie, Georgia to Bernard Columbia and Jimpsie Lee Alford Bell. He passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2011 at his home, surrounded by loved ones. Joel was of the Christian faith. He worked many years as a master plumber. He was past president of the V.F.W. in Alvarado, where he spent countless hours volunteering and working various charity programs. Children were a passion of his. He spent immeasurable time advocating and volunteering for programs that focused on the needs of children. He was a family man, enjoying any time he was able to spend with his family. Joel was a true, country music lover, playing the guitar and writing his own songs. He also enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. Joel's giving nature and outgoing spirit will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Rebecca Raimo; granddaughter, Jennifer Vandever; and siblings, Kenneth Bell, Mary Bell Walls, and Bennie Bell Haynes.
Survivors include his ex-wife, lifelong companion, and love, Roberta Bell; children, Shanda Bell, Joel Bell Panetta, Bobby Bell, and Deborah Thomason; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; sister in law, Phyllis Bell; numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
