Services for Joel Jerome Black, 69, of Covington, will be at a later date in Titusville, Florida. Burial will be in the LaGrange Cemetery, Titusville, Florida.
Mr. Black passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 in Cleburne. He was born to Joseph Clifton and Mildred Waldrop Black on September 23, 1941 in Elba, Alabama. He served in the United States Army from 1960-1967. Mr. Black devoted his life to law enforcement, working as a Deputy Sheriff in Brevard County, Florida and then as a Correctional Officer for the State of Florida. Joel married Sandra Kay Barker on May 17, 1975 in Titusville, Florida. He was of the Baptist faith. Joel enjoyed reading western novels and spending time outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. "Papa" was a family man and a good friend. He will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. Mr. Black was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Clifton Black and a sister, Susie Ann Triquet.
Survivors include his wife of over 35 years, Sandra Black; daughters, Rhonda Black, Bonnie Black, Lori Anderson and Cynthia Herbert; several grandchildren including Cherokee, Deanna, Amanda, Trey, Angelus, Brandon and Dominic; 1 great grandchild; mother, Mildred Jones and her husband, A.G.; sister, Martha Thomas; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
