Joel Max Hand, born September 30, 1962, died Thursday, June 4, 2009, surrounded by his family and loved ones.
Max Hand was born to Norma Jo and Joel "Jim"Marion Hand on September 30, 1962.
"Max" was born into a dairy family and his heart never strayed from his country roots.
Max worked side-by-side with his dad in the dairy and when the chores were done, Max got to play with his neighbor cousins, Walter, Susan and James and close friend, Kevin. He continued in the dairy business after the death of his father and following his marriage to Mairead George Fuston in 2001, they worked together raising registered Black Angus cattle and farming.
Max graduated from Cleburne High School in 1981 and then attended a technical school for mechanics training.
One of his greatest joys was when he began his career with the Texas Department of Transportation and enjoyed every day of his work until lung cancer forced his medical leave.
The family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the TxDot employees for their love and support throughout Max's illness. The family would also like to express their appreciation to Dr. Debra Prow and the staff of John Peter Smith Cancer Center, Dr. Mary Milam and her office staff and the nursing staff, Cheryl Jalyn and Cheryl Lynn.
Max was a member of the American Angus Association and the Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
Max is survived by his beloved wife, Mairead; his sister, Karen Griffith; her husband, Ed and their four children, Ed Jr., Zach, Amanda and Samantha; niece and nephew, Angela and Kevin Taylor George; a host of cousins and many friends as well as, Mairead and Max's 4-legged children. He was preceded in death by his parents.
