Memorial services for John E. Rogers, 91, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 3:00 P.M., Thursday, December 9, 2010 in the Cleburne Seventh Day Adventist Church with Pastor Peter Durichek officiating.
Mr. Rogers passed away Sunday, December 5, 2010 at his home. He was born August 9, 1919 in Hillsboro, NC to Roland Henry and Callie Johnson Rogers. He was a member of the Cleburne Seventh Day Adventist Church. John served in the United States Army, under the leadership of General Patton during World War II. Among several medals he was awarded a Purple Heart. He retired from NASA in 1972, where he worked as a pipefitter. John married Star Owens on January 5, 2005. It has been said that John was a good Christian man who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He spent time working outdoors. His hardheaded nature and love of laughter will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him. John is preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Elizabeth Rogers; and numerous siblings.
Survivors include his wife, Star Rogers; sons and daughters in law, James Michael and Chris Haley, Stacy Ray and Karen Haley, and Roy Erwin and Traci Hawkins; 7 grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews, including special niece and nephew, Linda Atkins and Johnny Langford; a host of other relatives and friends; and cat, Jill.
