John Martin Stroud passed away March 2, 2005 from a lengthy illness in Fort Worth. John was born June 3, 1943 in Arlington, Texas. His parents, James Martin Stroud and Ruth Branson Stroud, preceded him in death. He graduated in 1961 from Paschal High School in Fort Worth Texas and from Texas Christian University in 1965. He married Susan Anderson Stroud the same year and began his banking career first in Fort Worth and then in Dallas with Republic National Bank.
John graduated from the Southwest Institute of Banking before becoming the President of the Pan American National Bank of Dallas. In 1980, John moved his family to Abilene to start American National Bank at 4400 Buffalo Gap Road where he was President and CEO. He was also President of Bank One in Abilene. While in Abilene, John was active in the Chamber of Commerce, United Way of Abilene, Rotary Club of Abilene, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Hendrick Home for Children, St. Paul United Methodist Church, and the Texas Bankers Association.
He is survived by the mother of his children, Susan Stroud; his children, Susanna Stroud Maples and husband Grant; John Martin Stroud II and wife Susan Ann; and Carl Anderson Stroud and fianc?e Nicole Devlin. He was proud of his three grandchildren, Jackson Steele Maples, Sara Grace Stroud and Sophie Jane Stroud. His sister Sharon Burke and husband Joe Burke; nephew Brad Wilson and nieces Natalie Smith and Michelle Henson and their children Savannah, Ashley, Forrest and Madalyn.
Graveside services will be held Friday, March 4, 2005, at Union Hill Cemetery in Joshua, Texas. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Crosier Pearson Mayfield of Cleburne, Texas.
