Ms. Petty passed away on Saturday, November 19, 2011 in Fort Worth. She was born to John Walter and Johnnie Magnolia Johnson Maddox on September 3, 1929 in Selma, Alabama. Joan was a member of Emmanuel Seventh-day Adventist Church in Cleburne and attended Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church often as well. She retired after 30 years service as the SW Regional Director of the SDA Christian Record Services. Joan was dedicated to her job and committed to the blind and hearing impaired of whom she served. She spent countless hours raising funds for the blind camps and many other services for them. She continually put the needs of others above her own. Joan was health conscious and enjoyed growing her own vegetables in her garden. Joan's loving spirit and giving nature will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, John Maddox.
Survivors include her daughter, Angela Douglas; granddaughters, Kim Ards and her husband, Kevin, and Danielle Douglas; great granddaughter, Kenya Ards; siblings, Elizabeth McCullough, Arthur Maddox and his wife, Helen, Edna Howse, Frances Edwards and her husband, Walter, Richetine Williams, and Cherie Jones; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
