Service for Johnny Bridges, 78, of Arlington, will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, January 24, 2024 at Godley United Methodist Church, Godley, Texas with Pastor Randy Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Godley Cemetery. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 P.M., Tuesday, January 23, 2024 at the funeral home.
Johnny passed away Sunday, January 14, 2024 in Arlington. He was born January 4, 1946 in Cleburne to John Henry and Edna Earl (Willis) Bridges of Godley. He was a member of Godley United Methodist Church. Johnny graduated high school at Godley High. He played three sports, football, basketball and ran track. Johnny lettered all four years of high school in football and three years in basketball and track. He received many honors and awards. Johnny loved Godley, Texas and Godley High School. After graduation he attended Arlington State College for a very short time and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served in Vietnam/Thailand from 1966-1967. When he returned home in October 1967, he was stationed at Dyess AFB in Abilene, Texas. Johnny married his high school sweetheart, Mary Rene’ Harper on January 27, 1968 in Cleburne. They were married 53 beautiful years before her passing in April 2021. Johnny loved to hunt and fish. Along with his brother, Richard they hunted in New Mexico, Colorado and Montana, which was his favorite place to hunt elk. He enjoyed fishing, especially at Lake Fork where he had a weekend home on the lake for many years. Several times a month, Johnny would drive to Godley, very early in the morning to have breakfast with many old-time friends and Godley residents, such as Fred Willis, Kirk and Roy Carroll, George Irwin, Steve McLaughlin, Dr. Rich Dear and many others.
He is survived by his children, Stephanie Rene’ (Bridges) Johnson and husband, Mark, of Trophy Club; son, John Gregory Bridges and wife, Amy, of Roanoke; grandchildren, Hunter Wade Bridges, Austin Chase Bridges, Payton Avery Bridges, Cooper Evan Johnson and Sophie Rene’ Johnson.
Johnny was preceded in death by his wife, Rene’ Bridges; parents; brothers, Charles and Dick Bridges; sisters, Marilyn (Bridges) Campbell, Carolyn (Bridges) McNally, and Shirley (Bridges) Jones.
