Memorial services for Joseph Henry "Dee" Matthews, Sr., 66, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, January 4, 2011 in the First Baptist Church of Rio Vista.
Mr. Matthews passed away on Friday, December 31, 2010 in Cleburne. He was born to Errick Joseph and Meta May Mose Matthews on April 21, 1944 in Bunkie, Louisiana. He retired in 1982 after working as an Electrician for many years. He served in the United States Navy and was of the Baptist faith. Dee married Dolores Ann Smallwood on September 23, 1966 in Pasadena, Texas. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. Popee, as his grandchildren call him, was a family man with a lively sense of humor. He loved animals and was often teased over collecting many things. He will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved him. Mr. Matthews was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Dolores Matthews; children and their spouses, Laura Whitney, Kim and Chris Roberts, Joseph "Joe" Jr. and Delonna Matthews, Clint and Jole Matthews, and Natalie and Jody Steward; 18 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; siblings and their spouses, Barbara and Mike Jordan, Jeannette and David Shaw, Aggie Watson, and Ralph and Pam Matthews; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
