Joy Faye Lewis Cooke passed away peacefully with her daughter, son-in-law and sister-in-law by her side after a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s disease on Tuesday, May 2, 2017. She was a long-time resident of Cleburne. Joy was born on August 18, 1941 in Sand Flat to Alvin and Gloria Faught Lewis.
Joy always had a smile on her face and opened her arms to everyone she met. She married the love of her life, Johnny Cooke, on August 26, 1971. They were married for 38 years until his death on August 7, 2009. Joy gave birth to her daughter, Cammie in 1972. Joy’s stepson, Milton was also loved greatly. When his children, Marcee, Cody and Caden were born she loved spending time with them and spoiling them greatly, in particular during the holidays.
Joy will always be remembered by those who knew her as a kind heart and giving spirit. She was also quite the artist as she loved painting, floral design and decorating for the holidays. Joy was also a fantastic cook. She had the good fortune of being surrounded by a close family network. Together they shared many family gatherings and irreplaceable memories.
She will also be missed by her long-time friends and colleagues. She owned and operated the Hair Scene on South Main for over 20 years.
Survivors include her daughter, Cammie Marrs and son-in-law, Chris of Cedar Hill; stepson, Milton Cooke and wife Julie and grandchildren, Marcee, Cody and Caden, all of Canadian. She was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Alvin.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Joy’s caregivers, Karen Shaw, Misti Matthews, Alexis, Linda, Beverly, Christine and Biddy.
