Services for Judith “Judy” Mae Hodges Scoggins, 77, of Cleburne, will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, January 7, 2023, at Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel located at 512 N Ridgeway Drive, Cleburne, TX 76033, followed by a graveside service in Rosehill Cemetery.
Judith Mae Hodges Scoggins, beloved wife, mother, and friend to many, passed away peacefully on Sunday morning, January 1, 2023, after a courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. Judy was born to William and Pauline Hodges on November 13, 1945, in Cleburne, TX. She graduated Cleburne High School in 1964 and then attended North Texas State University (UNT) where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education and was an active member of Zeta Tau Alpha. UNT is where Judy met her future husband, George, in 1965 whom she married in 1968. They resided in Colorado Springs, CO for a few years where she taught kindergarten while George served on active duty in the US Army. The young couple then returned home to the DFW area where she went on to attend Southern Methodist University earning her master’s degree in History & the Humanities.
Judy and George built their lives in Fort Worth, TX. Judy was a devoted wife and an amazing mother, while staying very active in her community. Her passions were education (“it’s the key to life,” she would always say), the arts, music and her five dogs! She loved volunteering at The Fort Worth Junior League, The Van Cliburn, Mayfest and at her sons’ school, Trinity Valley. Once her children were in elementary school, Judy returned to work, teaching high school English and World History for the next 25 years. She ended her career at Bowie High School in Arlington, TX.
Judy had a warm smile and a poised, gentle way of moving through the world. Her friends and family will always remember her for the guidance and comfort she provided.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 55 years, George Scoggins and their two children, Christopher and Patrick.
In lieu of flowers, because of Judy’s love for animals, the family requests donations be made, in her memory, to the Humane Society of North Texas, 1840 E Lancaster Avenue, Fort Worth, TX 76103.
