Service for Kathelia Anne Dickey Vaquera, 74, of Cleburne, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Friday, October 28, 2022, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. David Giddings will officiate. Burial to follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be 6:00 – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, October 27, 2022 at the funeral home.
Kathelia passed away Thursday, October 20, 2022. She was born in Cleburne, Texas on June 16, 1948, the daughter of James William and Carleta Faye Massey Dickey. She attended Cleburne High School, graduating in 1966 and received her bachelor’s degree in education from Tarleton State University. She married Ralph Vaquera December 22, 1978. They made their lifelong home in Bono, Texas on family property. Kathelia was a faithful member of the Church of Christ, being baptized in 1958. She and Ralph are current members of the Westhill Church of Christ in Cleburne, Texas. She was a dedicated elementary school teacher for many years. She began her teaching career in Fort Worth ISD and continued to teach in several of the Johnson County school districts completing her career in Fort Worth ISD in 2006. She could always be the light and fun of any family or social gathering. She was a great supporter of the Bono Volunteer Fire Department and the Bono Community where she and Ralph made their lifetime home.
Kathelia is preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Martha Dickey Southerland.
She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Ralph, and two loving children, Dr. Key Vaquera and wife, Calli Johnson Vaquera of Prosper, Texas and Dr. Kayla Anne Vaquera Barrett and husband, Dr. Gilbert Barrett of Celina, Texas. Her grandchildren were the light of her life: Eleanor Vaquera, Ben Vaquera and Daniel Barrett. She is also survived by one sister, Wileta Dickey Kretzschmar and many beloved nieces, nephews, in-laws, and treasured friends.
