Kay passed away August 7, 2022, from cancer. She was selfless and courageous throughout this battle, surprising no one. She was born on May 21, 1943, to Murphy Pickle and Pauline Davis Pickle in Fort Worth, Texas. She graduated from high school in Nocona, Texas and attended the University of North Texas. She met her husband in Nocona, James Allen Johnson, and they married June 8, 1963. They moved to Cleburne in 1968 and raised their children, Susi Whitworth and David Johnson here. Dr. Johnson died in 2007. Kay owned The Castle Collection for several decades until 2012. She was a very successful businesswoman and interior designer with her partner and longtime true friend, Mary King. She has been an active member of the First United Methodist Church throughout her adult life. She met and married William Johnson, her second prince, in 2016.
She was blessed with a wonderful family. She had two very devoted and loving husbands in her lifetime and two children who loved her dearly. Her greatest joys were her five grandchildren who loved spending time with their Lala. She was passionate about traveling and took them on wonderful trips.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Jim.
She is survived by her husband, Bill, her children, David Johnson and his wife Lori, and her daughter, Susi Whitworth and husband Keith. She has five grandchildren, Kayla, Kara, and Chloe Johnson, William Whitworth, and Mary Anne Smith and husband Carson. She has a sister, Nancy Johnson and husband Steve in Cleburne, and a brother Steve Wharram in Cleburne and sister-in-law Pam Crowell. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Steve Johnson from Dallas and sister-in-law, Sally Johnson. She has two cousins, Suzanne Yeary and Cindi Granade. There are also many cousins, nieces and nephews who will miss their Auntie Kay.
