Kenneth Moore

Memorial service for Kenneth Ray Moore, 90, of Grandview, will be conducted at 1:00 P.M., Monday, August 8, 2016 in the Calvary Baptist Church in Cleburne. Officiating will be Ken’s nephew, Rev. Homer F. Moore of San Antonio. Interment will be in Sand Flat Cemetery at a later date.

Kenneth Ray Moore passed away peacefully with his family by his side at a hospital in Dallas, Texas. Ken was born in Desdemona, Texas to Frank Dalton and Stella Ethel Moore on March 22, 1926. Ken was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Powers Moore; two sisters, Thelma Pauline Blanton and Stella Ruth Brigham; his loving wife of 47 years, Eva Louise McNeese Moore; and son, Stanley Kent Moore.

Ken and his siblings enjoyed the country life until their family moved to the big city of Fort Worth, Texas in 1940. Ken was a 1944 graduate of Technical High School in Fort Worth, Texas. He enlisted in the US Navy at the age of 17 years old. He made this decision after the family received word that his older brother, Ted was MIA in the Philippines. The day after his high school graduation Ken was shipped off to San Francisco, California for boot camp. Then Ken went overseas aboard the USS CUBU where he spent time sweeping for mines for North Australia to Okinawa, Japan. When the USS CUBU was sunk in a typhoon, he was then transferred to the USS Doyle, a WWI destroyer converted to a mine sweeper. They then swept mines from Australia all the way to the inland sea of Japan. They were the first ship to enter the inland sea after the war ended. In 1946, Ken had earned enough service points and he was honorably discharged in Norman, Oklahoma.

Upon his return back to his home in Fort Worth, Ken stated college full time at TCU. In 1947, he began work as a machinist with Consulated Vultee, now known as General Dynamics in Fort Worth. This is where he met the love of his life Louise. They were married on June 11, 1950 in Yuma, Arizona.

In 1953, the family was transferred to Los Angeles, California where he worked a Quality Control Vice President for Convair. In 1962, the family moved to Abilene where Ken worked as Manufacturing Manager for Automation Industries until 1973. During the family’s time in Abilene, they owned a 250 acre ranch just outside Abilene in Ovalla, Texas. The family spent their spare time at the ranch. Ken loved animals and enjoyed raising Polled Herefords and horses.

A career change was in order, so Ken moved the family to Childress, Texas. They owned and operated Dur-a-link Manufacturing, Inc. a chain link and wood fence manufacturer until 1980. At that time, the business in Childress was sold and the family moved to Cleburne. Ken worked as Vice President of Goex International, Inc. until 1988. With the children grown, Ken and Louise moved to Dickson, Tennessee where he worked for Accurate Arms until he retired in 1991.

Ken was a 33rd degree York Rite of Mason and a member of the Masonic Lodge Cleburne No. 315 and Abilene No. 557 since 1949 and member of Calvary Baptist Church. In 2007, Ken moved to the Sand Flat area to live with his daughter Louann and family. Ken was in heaven, he loved spending time outdoors where he was an avid gardener. Ken was known for making the best yellow cornbread and famous pecan pies. An avid Texas Ranger fan, he would not miss watching a game for anything. Ken read the Cleburne Times & Fort Worth Star Telegram every day. Many time circling points of interest for Dennis and Louann to read and saving copies of his grandson, Jamie Moore, AKA “Front Page”. Ken had many famous words that he used in his conversation: Honked Up, Shade Tree, Goof Ball, Toot Blossom and Calf Rope just to name a few. Ken looked forward to his daily calls from Steve, where they always discussed the weather, news, and of course, the Rangers. Ken was very strong in his Christian faith; he loved his family and would tell you to vote for Trump!

Survivors include his brother, Ted Moore of Grand Prairie; sisters, Mary Mitchmore of Hurst, Maxine Clayton and husband Ural of Oak Ridge, North Carolina, Margarette Harrell and husband George of Keller, and Louise Hall and husband Bill of Fort Worth; son, Stephen Ray Moore and his wife Vikki of Amarillo; his daughter, Eva Louann Habenicht and husband Dennis of Grandview; grandsons, Jeff Moore and wife Kim of Glen Rose, Jamie Moore and wife Ashley of Cleburne and Dalton Habenicht of Grandview; granddaughters, Magen McVeigh of Haslet, Chelsea and husband Kenny Noggler of Amarillo, and Lauren Habenicht of Grandview; great grandchildren Macie, Courtnie, and Aiden McVeigh of Saginaw, McKenzie, Carson and Cayden Moore of Glen Rose, Kade and Kenley Moore of Cleburne, and Trinity Noggler of Amarillo. In addition to his immediate family, Ken has many nieces and nephews and extended family that he loved very much.
