Mr. LC Martin, Jr. passed away Friday, March 25, 2011, joining his departed wife of 60 years, Betty Jo Hubbard Martin, to spend eternity with our Lord Father in Heaven. LC Martin, Jr., having lived a long and fruitful life, was born July 24, 1925 in Fort Worth, Texas. He was one of five children born to Lemmie Calvin Martin and Albin Edna Butler Martin. LC's early years were difficult; his father died during the latter years of the Great Depression on March 10, 1939 when LC was 13 years old. He and his siblings went to work to support the family. LC built a shoe shine box and began shining shoes and sacking groceries at Scott's Drug Store at Six Point's in Fort Worth. The United States having entered World War II, LC at age 17 asked his mother to write a letter allowing him to enlist in the Navy in February 1943. Serving in the Pacific theater on the LCI (G)-441, his participation in the notable campaigns of Saipan, Guam, Tinian and Iwo Jima had solidified LC as a charter member of the greatest generation of our time. Admiral Chester Nimitz said, "Among the men who fought on Imo Jima, uncommon valor was a common virtue." After WWII, LC worked his way through college, graduating third in his class from Southern Methodist University in 1954 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering.
LC married Betty Jo Hubbard on January 4, 1948. He was the first employee hired by Aztec Mfg in 1956. He started as their Chief Engineer and worked his way up through the ranks to his retirement as President & CEO of Aztec Mfg in 2003. LC served on the Board of the API Pipe Committee and on the Education Advisory Board for Stanford University, where he taught business classes at Stanford University.
LC and Betty had a strong, loving marriage to where they were blessed by three sons. LC's generation went through incredible hardships that current generations may never fully understand. Through these hardships, character was built within LC. He possessed a very high level of ethics and morals and you always knew where he stood on issues. Known by his peers as a wise businessman; LC will be remembered by his family as a generous, loving and devoted husband, father and friend to his dear wife, sons, grandchildren, great grandchildren and the many family members... this is what set him apart.
LC was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Jo Hubbard Martin, and his great grandson, Austin Lee Ramirez.
Survivors include his beloved young brother, Robert Martin; sons, LC Martin III, Bruce Martin and his wife, Shawn, and Rip Martin; seven grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The family gives a very special thank you to Dad's healthcare professional, Martha Crow for all of the kind and encouraging care she provided.
