Service for L.A. Hunter, 91, of Keene, will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013 in the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church. Pastor Bill Kilgore will officiate. Burial will be in Keene Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6-8:00 P.M., Friday, at the funeral home.
Mr. Hunter passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013 in Keene. He was born Aug. 12, 1922 in Oilton, Ok. to Elias Mervin and Ethel Robinson Hunter. He married Nelda Lucille Holmes on Nov. 28, 1940 in Oilton, Ok. and she preceded him in death on March 18, 2010. He was a family man, in every sense of the phrase. He was a member of the Keene Seventh-day Adventist Church.
L.A.’s military service was a highlighting point of his life. He served his country proudly under George Patton’s command during World War II at the Battle of the Bulge in the field artillery. He served in five campaigns and was presented with five bronze stars.
He retired as owner and operator of Hunter Construction. He was a man of great character and a strong work ethic. L.A. was a man of his word. He was known as being a true gentleman with great faith. He worked daily to improve upon himself. His joking spirit and laughter will be missed greatly by all who knew and loved him.
He is also preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Elaine Chastain; siblings, Wade, Edwin, Shirley, Coy, Darrell, and Billy Hunter, Marie Riker, Vedge Scroggins, and Odalee Capps.
Survivors include his son, Ronald Hunter and wife, Sue Ann; 6 grandchildren, Randell Chastain, James L. Chastain, Debra Chastain Johnson, Brett Hunter, Rene Sutter, and Sherry Henderson; 7 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.
