Services for Larry Stephen Davis, 56, of Godley will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Saturday, November 6, 2010 in the First Baptist Church of Godley. He was a locomotive engineer on the Trinity Railway Express passenger train that travels throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth area, employed by Herzog Transit for the last 10 years. Larry loved his job, his fellow co-workers and visiting with his passengers. They were his second family. The Reverend Kenneth Coleman will officiate. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6-8 P.M. Friday at the funeral home.
Larry Stephen Davis passed away Thursday, November 4, 2010 in Godley after a long courageous battle with lung cancer. He was born July 23, 1954 in Killeen to John S. and Barbara Davis. He graduated from Godley High School in 1972. During employment for the Santa Fe Railroad, Larry completed a Carman Apprenticeship; worked on a track gang, and in 1980, he became a certified Locomotive Engineer. While working at Chapparal Steel, he earned a certificate as an Iron and Steel worker. He also worked at Rubbermaid and on a ranch. Larry lived in the Godley and Cleburne area most of his life. He was a kind and generous person that never met a stranger. He will be sorely missed by all that knew and loved him.
Larry is survived by his "sweet mama" (as he called her), Barbara Ann Davis of Cleburne; daughter, Shawna Davis Allen and grandchildren, Ashley Nichole and Hunter Roy Allen of Godley; son-in-law, John Zamrzla of Fort Worth; brother, Joe Paul Davis and wife, Tammy of Weatherford; sisters-in-law, Wayne Ann Davis and Kathy Jo Robinson of Godley; nieces and nephews, John, Stephen, Jim, Jeff, Brittany and Danielle Davis, Allison Turner and Risee McDaniel; caregivers, Pam Betzinger and her daughter, Kim of Euless and Beverly Davis-Demers and husband, Joe of Cleburne and an extended host of family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his precious daughter, Tanya Nicole Davis Zamrzla, father, John Stephen Davis, Jr.; two brothers, John Clay and Jimmy Davis; three sisters, an infant, Bertha Naomi Davis, JoAnn Raney, Stevie Overby and his grandparents.
A special thanks is given to Brother Kenneth Coleman for being such a good friend to our entire family. Larry loved and respected him. He gave Larry spiritual comfort and peace.
