Laverne (McCain) Lafferty

Laverne McCain Lafferty, 87, of Rio Vista, Texas, passed away on Sunday, November 3, 2024. Services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 9, 2024, in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. A burial will follow in Rio Vista Cemetery. Visitation will begin one hour prior to the service in the Chapel. Serving as pallbearers are Charlie Cate, Jesse Cate, John Cate, and Stuart Alcorn. 

Laverne was born on October 23, 1937, in Prescott, Arkansas. The McCain Family moved to Marietta, Oklahoma where Laverne grew up in a family with 4 sisters. After graduating from Marietta High School, she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics at Oklahoma State University. On June 11, 1960, she married Weaver Garrel Lafferty in Marietta, Oklahoma. She dedicated much of her career to computer programming before transitioning to a full-time homemaker and loving mother. Her priority was always her family, for whom she had a profound love. 

Laverne’s creativity extended into all aspects of her life. She had a deep passion for gardening and was known for her culinary skills, artistry, and talent in sewing. Laverne will be fondly remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and her many talents that enriched the lives of those around her. 

Laverne is survived by her daughters Denise Lafferty with Stuart Alcorn, and Kelly Cate with husband, Charlie Cate. She was the proud grandmother of Jesse Cate, John Cate, and Emma Cate. Additionally, she is remembered by her sisters, Barbara McCain, Charlene Ritchie, and Emogene Crow. She also leaves behind cherished friends and family members including Avonelle Shipp and Peggy Gardner. 

She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles Edward and Verna Pittman McCain; her beloved husband, Weaver Garrel Lafferty; her sister Janet Hall; as well as many other loving family and friends.
