Layton Sutton

Dr. Sutton was born November 28, 1930, in Ardmore, Oklahoma to Ned and Ave Labbait Sutton and lived much of his life there. He passed away peacefully at home on March 18, 2007 in Keene, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Joyce Roberts and Gwen Sutton. On August 24, 1975, he married Janice Lynn McKown in Keene, Texas.
Dr. Sutton attended Southwestern Adventist University in Keene, Texas, and Southern Adventist University in Collegedale, Tennessee. He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine. Dr. Sutton practiced medicine lovingly for over fifty years, pioneered the Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation Unit at Kettering Hospital in Dayton, Ohio, worked as the plant physician for Uniroyal Tire Company in Ardmore, Oklahoma, served as Medical Director of the Oklahoma Veterans Center in Ardmore for twenty years, and maintained a private medical practice. He also served his country in the United States Navy in Portsmouth, Virginia.
Dr. Sutton co-authored the book entitled "Indian Territory and Carter County Pioneers" which outlines the history of Southern Oklahoma. He was President of the Ardmore Institute of Health Board that established and operates the Lifestyle Center of America (a health and wellness institute) in Sulphur, Oklahoma. He also wrote the book entitled "The Johnson Dream" which outlines the history of the Lifestyle Center of America.
Dr. Sutton was a faithful member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church all of his life. For thirteen years he traveled to Mexico with the Keene Mexico Mission Team to build churches, schools and clinics. He served as deacon in the Keene Church and participated in the Prison Ministry Bible Study.
Survivors include his wife, Jan Sutton, of Keene, Texas; son, Jesse Layton, of Alvarado, Texas; daughter, Deborah Lynn and husband John, of Keene, Texas with grandchildren Kayleb and Kayleigh; sister, Martha Sutton Henninger and husband Larry of Fair Oaks, California; son, Shawn and wife Geovanna of Germantown, Maryland, with granddaughter Hannah; son, Timothy and wife Linda of Kenai, Alaska; nephew, Stephen Henninger, niece, Sarah Henninger, great-niece, Jenna, all of Fair Oaks, California; niece, Sharon Brown of Temecula, California; niece Bonnie McConnell of Houston, Texas; and a host of other family and friends.
