Service for Lecil Cheek, 95, of Garland, formerly longtime resident of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 A.M., Monday, Feb. 3, 2014 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. Mr. Mike Crosby will officiate. Burial will be in Georges Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9-10:00 A.M., Monday, prior to the service.
Mr. Cheek passed away Thursday, January 30, 2014 in Garland. He was born July 29, 1918 in Fort Spunky to William Drayton and Myrtle Elizabeth Howeth Cheek. He married Reba Dodson on July 22, 1939 in Dallas and she preceded him in death on December 16, 2006.
Mr. Cheek worked for the Dallas Transit System, now Dart, driving a variety of streetcars and buses before retiring after 40 years of service. Recently he was a member of South Garland Church of Christ but for many years attended the Westhill Church of Christ in Cleburne.
Survivors include his children, Ellen Gail Birkett and husband James of Garland and William Roger Cheek and wife Kay of Plano; three grandchildren, Scott Cheek and wife Lee Ann, and Corey Cheek, all of Dallas , and Shelley Flanagan of Sachse; four great grandchildren, Carson Cheek and Riley Cheek, both of Dallas, Michelle Prince of Wylie, and Brittany Jackson of Sachse; two great-great grandchildren, Madison Brown and Micaela Williams, both of Garland; two half-sisters; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents.
