Leon Burgess

Service for Leon Burgess, 78, of Cleburne will be conducted at 10:00 AM Thursday, January 3, 2013 in the Crosier-Pearson Cleburne Chapel. The Reverend John Glover will officiate. Burial will be in the Greenacres Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Sonny Burgess, Kenneth Wallis, Chris Johnson, Steve Helms, Jon Helms, Jim Garey. Honorary pallbearers will be Rickey Stepp, Nickey Stepp, Robert Helms, Gary Wallis and Scott Burgess. Visitation will be from 4-6 PM Wednesday at the funeral home.

Leon Burgess passed away Sunday, Dec. 30, 2012 in Cleburne. He was born May 2, 1934 in Cleburne to Vergel and Katie Mae Carlock Burgess. He married Bonnie Sue Helms on December 14, 1956 in Cleburne. Mr. Burgess was a carman for Santa Fe Railroad and was the operator of various restaurants in Cleburne over several years. He served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Leon was a member of Field Street Baptist Church and was a 40 year member of Masonic Lodge #315, as a 32 Degree Mason.

Leon Burgess is survived by his wife of 56 years, Bonnie Burgess of Cleburne; son, Ronny Burgess of Marshall; daughter, Angie Martin and husband Kirk of Weatherford; 5 grandchildren, Julie Elmore, Melissa Weisser, Chance Martin, Hattie Burgess and Dustin Burgess; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Donald Ray Burgess of Cleburne; 3 sisters, Virginia Stepp of Cleburne, Virgie Johnson of Rio Vista and Janelle Johnson and husband Sidney of Cleburne; sister-in-law Billie Burgess of Cleburne and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Sonny and Wendell and two sisters, Louise and Alene.
